Drifting along...

I launched my kayak an hour before dawn out of Sanchez park. No sights or sounds of humanity, peaceful and calm. The scent of the Magnolia fills the air. The water resembled glass save for the small schools of Manhaden skittering about at the surface. The tell tale pop along the shoreline reveals the locations of my favorite saltwater species, the Snook. I paddle on. A large Owl silently glides overhead and lands on an old cedar. As I drift along, the unmistakable "who cooks for you, who cooks for you, all" is reverberated over the water. My suspicion is confirmed, a Barred Owl. A lonely raccoon is heading home after a long night of scouring the shoreline for tasty treats. The mullet playfully launch themselves into the air and come down with a clumsy ker-plunk. I reflect on how lucky I am to have all of this in my life. I paddle on.
